Sanae
SANAE (71.68 S, -2.85 E) The SuperDARN radar at Vesleskarvet (formerly known as SANAE) began operations in March 1997. The original PI was Dr. David Walker. Dr. Jon P.S. Rash is now responsible for the operation of the Vesleskarvet radar. A new digital radar built by SANSA was installed in the austral summer of 2013-2014. Notes: Beam Separation Sign: Northern hemisphere radars count beam 0 as the westernmost beam, which is the leftmost beam. Historically southern hemisphere radars did the same westernmost, which is the rightmost beam, meaning the beam separation would be negative. This is why the beam separation for SAN is negative. Old radar code: d Data quality issues: Due to computer failures, data from May 16, 2013 to Sept. 18, 2013 is not the best quality as it has scan faults and the radar was working on very few transmitters.
